We Are a Sent People
by Tom Goodman
December 4, 2013
As the Father sent the Son into the world for our salvation, we are sent out to share that salvation with the world. Since Christmas is the celebration of the sent Son, Christmas is a perfect time to remember we are sent disciples! That's the reason
we promote a missions offering during this season.
Learn more about our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and the cause it supports this Sunday. You'll meet Mike and Lindy Howard, who have served in Zambia for three
decades with our International Mission Board. Mike will preach in the 10am service; and then, after our Bible study hour, Mike and Lindy will talk more about Zambia during our Missions Munch at 12:15pm. You'll need a ticket for the Missions Munch, which
you can buy at the church office or online.
We're blessed to have a lot of missionary connections in our church, including Becky, who promotes the Journeyman program. (We don't use her full name in print.) I asked her to write
about her service:
When I graduated college, I had many opportunities ahead of me. But when I looked out at a lost world that desperately needs Good News, I knew I had no choice but to follow God to East Asia to serve as a Journeyman with the International Mission
Board. As Lottie Moon said, "The needs of these people press upon my soul, and I cannot be silent." It's not necessarily that I was called to go in some mystic sense, but that I simply couldn't stay.
Now that I'm back in the United States, he continues to lead me. God calls us to himself, after all; the rest is just geography. But those of us currently in the States are called to give and pray for global missions. And if you are between the
ages of 21 and 26, why not consider applying for Journeyman? Whatever your long-term career plans are, two years devoted to serving the Lord among those who have never heard his name
will make an eternal difference in many lives -- including yours.
We once were lost, but now are found. Now we have the privilege of giving, praying, and going so that others can hear.
Be sure to visit with Becky at Hillcrest before her 1-year assignment with us is up. And recommit to supporting global missions as you hear Mike and Lindy Howard this Sunday!
