Day 3 Devotional (Week 5)

"I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord." -- Psalms 116:17 (NIV)

God used three classic gospel hymns and a phone call from the Connection Campaign to bring me home to Him.  I was a prodigal son who was welcomed home by his loving Father.  When I think about the love He revealed to me then, and the blessings and tender discipline since then, I can't help but be filled with gratitude and praise.  But like the song says "Empty hands held high are such a small sacrifice," I know the deepest heart-felt thanks are not enough.  I want and need to offer more -- to offer all that I am.

A version of the prayer below has been a regular part of my daily devotionals.  During the summer of 2008 one of these prayers was answered when God let me know that Pastor Tom would be seeking contributions to a building campaign, and how I was to respond.  I gulped at the amount God called me to give and I wondered if He had an installment plan!  But I also knew that I would obey.  God did, too -- and provided what was needed in a surprising and amazing demonstration of His divine power.

Surrender to God and ask to know His will in your life; trust that He will provide for your needs; obey and expect to be truly amazed by God.

Father God, thank You for Your grace, patience, persistence, forbearance, and unceasing love.  I surrender to You my time, talent, and treasure.  Show me Your will for my life, use me as You please.  Amen.
