Day 4 Devotional

"Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain." -- Psalm 127:1
"Daddy, can you help us build something?" This question often greets Brent as he walks in the door from work.
Our kids have very different personalities, and it is painfully obvious when they start a building project together. Ethan is a planner. He has a vision in his head of exactly how it should look. Ella is more of a dreamer. She is content to just add
blocks and see where it takes her. These differing styles often result in conflict when they build together.
Many of us as adults fall into these habits as well. We get so set on our own vision that we are not open to what God desires. We get so excited to do great things we neglect to ask God for His guidance. We get irritated with those around us that
work differently than us.
Our kids may struggle with the process, but they know one thing without a doubt -- everything is better when Daddy is involved. They eagerly seek him and his involvement and approval. They want him to teach them, plan with them, dream with them. They
get almost giddy with excitement as they wait to see what he will create.
In the same way, we have the opportunity to prepare for a miracle by remembering who our Father is, and what He is capable of doing. Will you join with us as we ask, "Daddy, can we help you build something?"
Father, thank you that you have given us all unique gifts and personalities to serve you and each other. We offer up to you our dreams, our plans, and our talents. Let us not labor in vain, but join with you as you build your house.
