Here is this week's WINNING WAYS . . . .

“Your Campaign Checklist”
by Tom Goodman

Our “Purpose-Driven Life” campaign (PDL) begins this Sunday, October 3!  Here are four ways you can start off right with this campaign.

First, send your friends an e-card!  Log on to www.HillcrestAustin.org/ecard to send the beautiful card that has been prepared for you to distribute to Austin-area friends.  Lots of people are curious about PDL after hearing about it through newspaper and magazine articles, seeing the author on morning news shows, and passing huge displays of the books in wholesale stores.  Start this campaign right by including your friends.

Second, sign up for the daily e-mails!  Starting Sunday, October 3, all of us will begin the forty daily readings in PDL.  Our PDL Team wants to send you a daily e-mail that matches the theme of your daily reading.  Every e-mail will end with a short prayer prepared by our Campaign Prayer Team.  What a great way to get that daily “nudge” to help you stay committed to the campaign!  Log on to Click here to sign up for the e-mails.

Third, attend the Connection Event!  This Sunday at 9:15 a.m., go to the MPC (our gym).  We will have greeters to get your teens to the third floor of the education building, and to drop your kids off at the Hillcrest Kids Wing.  As an adult, though, if you go to your normal Sunday School class, you’ll be lonely!  The rest of us will be in the MPC enjoying a light breakfast and getting “connected” to a study group (that’s why it’s called a “Connection Event!”).  When you enter the gym, you’ll see big signs that say “20-Something,” “30-Something,” and so on.  Make your way to the sign that best fits your age, and you’ll find hosts to greet you and help you get settled in a study group.  Connecting to a study group is the best way to make the most of our campaign!  You will meet new friends and you will be given a study guide (free) and the New York Times bestseller, The Purpose-Driven Life (suggested donation of $7).

Fourth, attend the Simulcast!  This Sunday evening, there will only be one event!  No Awana, no choirs, no handbells, no Discipleship Training.  Instead, we’ll all gather in the Worship Center from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. to worship with a bunch of other churches via a simulcast.  Note the change in time.  Evening service normally starts at 6:30; this Sunday it starts at 6:00.  Worship will be led by the author of PDL and his worship team at Saddleback Church in California.  The simulcast will provide an important introduction to the Five Purposes we will study throughout the Campaign.

Use this edition of Winning Ways as a checklist and make sure you check off all four ways to make the right start with this exciting campaign!

This Week at Hillcrest:

The Mission:  Our Sunday morning series, Movie Messages, ends this week.  We’ve been  looking at what the Bible says about themes that inspired some mainstream movies.  This week we’ll see what God’s Word has to say about the power of forgiveness, which is a major lesson in the sad and compelling film, The Mission, starring Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro.
A Goodbye and a Hello:  This week we say good-bye to Tammy Wallace, who’s been on staff since April 2002 and she’s been my secretary since I arrived in May 2003.  She and her husband Brian look forward to the birth of their baby girl in a couple of weeks, and she plans to stay home with the baby.  She’s been an excellent assistant and I’ll miss her very much.  In addition to our goodbye to Tammy, though, we extend a hello to Jami Dismukes.  Jami and her husband Karl have been active in our church for years.  After Jami wraps up her responsibilities at the Round Rock Children’s Home, she’ll take Tammy’s empty chair full-time.  We are fortunate to have her aboard!
New Chapter:  I’ve added a new chapter to The Anchor Course at www.anchorcourse.blogspot.comReading these chapters will help you explain the faith, and forwarding these chapters to your seeking friends will help them explore the faith.
