“Until Then?”

This Sunday we’ll wrap up our study of the Last Days with a look at how Jesus expected us to live as we wait for his return.
It reminds me of a line from one of Garrison Keillor’s stories, where he wrote of his childhood memories of attending the state fair. Fairs were held in the fall, and the air was cool and you walked through the carnival grounds under strings of
bare
A Keillor story often means more than it first seems, so as I read about his childhood visits to the Minnesota state fair, his description of riding the ferris wheel made me stop and think. He said he looked forward to getting on that ferris
wheel and “rising up over the bright lights in to the dark night toward the stars, and falling back into our real lives.”
I feel like that as we end our seven-week series this Sunday. We’ve spent our summer studying fascinating future scenes, but now we fall back into our real lives where marriage isn’t always perfect and work isn’t always a joy and dental
appointments still have to be made and the car still makes that funny noise. Yes, we believe that Jesus is coming again, but what should we do until then?
Any study of prophecy ends with that practical question. Join us as we answer it this Sunday, August 1, at 8:15 or 10:45 a.m.

Praying for THEM: We’re in our last week of united prayer for our THEMs. Each week we’ve prayed for a different circle of relationships: family and friends, neighbors, co-workers, and those we know socially.
This week we’ll end the prayer effort by praying for our “other relationships.” This is a wide category that captures all of our casual acquaintances we see: the clerk at the driving range, the manager at our favorite restaurant, and so
on. Remember that the word THEM is the most important word in the Great Commission: “Go to the people all nations and make THEM my disciples. Baptize THEM in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach THEM to
do everything I have told you.”
Special Called Meeting This Sunday: This Sunday evening, August 1, 6:30 p.m., we’ll have a special called business meeting to vote on a recommendation from the Personnel Committee. The recommendation is that
we call Herb Ingram to be our next Minister of Education. I’m excited about this step!
