Here is this week’s WINNING WAYS . . . .
“Special Workshop This Sunday”
by Tom Goodman
Where does a butler learn to butler? One place is in a
school run by Ivor Spencer in London. There are eighty-six lessons in
Ivor Spencer’s butler school, including how to present and pour wine,
how to pack a suitcase so that the clothing won’t get rumpled, and how to
iron the morning newspaper so that it fixes the ink and won’t stain the
employers hands. Students learn how to tell the difference between wild
salmon and farm-raised salmon, and the proper way to open a champagne
bottle so that it makes a hiss instead of a pop. Butlers trained by
Spencer have gone on to work for the Queen of England, the Duke of York,
and King Hussein of Jordan, though many are now hired by businessmen in the
U.S.
Students trained by Spencer can count on US$40,000 a
year plus room, board and a car. Not bad. Sorry—I don’t have the school’s
address!
Ivor Spencer wants his students to learn how to serve
well. When we become followers of Christ, we too are expected to learn how
to serve well.
This Sunday evening, December 7, we are
going to help you identify how you were SHAPED to serve God at
Hillcrest. The acronym “S-H-A-P-E” has become a famous was to
teach the five ways God has “shaped” us to serve in His kingdom.
This Sunday, the entire Ministry Staff will join me in leading
a workshop called “How to Be a Difference-Maker.” In this workshop,
we will help the entire church identify their place of ministry
at Hillcrest. All those who have joined our church in 2003
will be given special recognition in this service. Note the
special time for this workshop: our normal evening service
begins at 6:30, but this Sunday we will begin
at 6:00 . The service will conclude at our normal
7:30 time.
This is the “sequel’ to the “Discover Hillcrest” class.
We provide the “Discover Hillcrest” workshop monthly for those who want to
join. From now on, we’ll provide the “How to Be a Difference-Maker”
workshop quarterly as the “next step” for those who have joined our
church. The workshop will help them identify their place of service at
Hillcrest.
First Corinthians 12:5 (NIV) says, “There are different kinds of service.” Come and
find yours this weekend!

Discover Hillcrest: A.M. Edition! Have
you wanted to join Hillcrest but you’ve been unable to attend our
"Discover Hillcrest" class in the afternoon? Then here's your

during the Sunday School hour on two CONSECUTIVE Sundays, December 14 and
21. It takes 2 hours to complete the class, so you should plan on
