Here is this week’s WINNING WAYS . . . .

“Model Families in Model Homes”
by Tom Goodman

Residential developers have often used model homes to sell their new real estate.  Now one developer is using model families as well.  When the Windermere Gate development in the suburbs of Toronto tried to get people to buy new homes in their subdivision, they not only had 4 or 5 model homes for prospects to walk through, but they hired actors to pretend to be families actually living in the homes.  Prospects would walk through one home, for example, and they found a young couple trying out dance steps to music playing on the stereo.  In another one, a middle-aged couple in stylish jogging suits sat on their porch drinking cappuccino, with the bikes they had just ridden leaning against the porch railing.  The marketing and sales director of the project thinks of the project as an “interactive commercial” and believes it helps people actually see themselves in the homes they’re considering buying.

Model families in model homes.  I wonder how many of us are like those Toronto actors:  only pretending to have the perfect family life.  This Sunday we’re going to look at how to be more “on purpose” in our families.  It’s part of our series called “On-Purpose Living.”

See you at 8:30 or 10:45!
– Tom

The story of the model homes appeared in the Wall Street Journal October 1, 1993.

IF YOU ATTEND THE FIRST SERVICE, REMEMBER OUR TIME CHANGE!  The early service now begins at 8:15 a.m.  This will give us the time we need for worship without crowding the start of Sunday School.

IF YOU ATTEND THE SECOND SERVICE, HELP US WITH PARKING!  This Sunday we’ll run a shuttle between Hillcrest and Anderson High School from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m.  This will give you plenty of time to get to Sunday School, even if you have to arrive early for set-up!  The shuttle will return you to Anderson following the second service.  If you bring people with you, you can drop them off at Hillcrest before bringing your car to Anderson.

RESPONSE TEAM TRAINING will take place this Sunday, October 5, following the evening service, from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m.  The “Response Team” helps people with decisions and prayer needs following our services.  If you’re interested in joining the Response Team, join us for this important training event.

REQUESTS FOR THE 2004 BUDGET should be turned in by this Sunday, October 5.
