Here is this week’s LeaderLines. . . .
“Watch Your Step!”
by Tom Goodman
The Pentagon is developing a radar-based device that can identify people by the way they walk, for use in a new antiterrorist surveillance system.
Operating on the theory that an individual's walk is as unique as a signature, the Pentagon has financed a research project at the Georgia Institute of Technology that has been 80 to 95 percent successful in identifying people. In this age of
terrorism, identifying someone by his so-called “gait signature” could prove helpful. For example, as someone approached a restricted site, the technology could warn security officers that the person was not an employee by comparing his gait
with those on file.*
The research shows that we can be identified by the way we walk. The Bible has always told us that. Ephesians 4:1 (NASB) tells us to “walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called.”
Christians are to put into practice the Life Instructions they find in the Word. Helping people live the Word is part of helping people ascend the H.I.L.L. You’ve been introduced to this acrostic in past LeaderLines. At Hillcrest,
everything we do is aimed at helping people reach four objectives:
H -- Honor the Lord of Life
I -- Invite Your World to Life
L -- Love the Fellowship for Life
L -- Live the Word in Life
That’s our H.I.L.L. to crest! Hillcrest is more than our name -- it’s a destination! We’ve already looked at the first three objectives in LeaderLines. It’s that last part of the Hillcrest Task that I’m focusing on this week.
We need to help people “live the Word in life.”
God’s Word gives us guidance in money management, child-raising, marriage enrichment, career issues, decision-making, and relationship building. The list could go on. The poet’s call should be ours: “Let me live by your word” (Psalm
119:37, NCV).
Thank you for the part you play at helping people live by God’s Word at Hillcrest! It’s one way we help people crest the H.I.L.L. Take a moment to examine how you’re doing at helping people “live the Word in life,” and then re-commit
yourself to pouring your passion and energy into that great work!
Higher,
Tom
