“Do You Have a Stressed Nest?”
by Tom Goodman
April 6, 2005

A pastor once ended his sermon on family harmony by holding up a little cross made of palm fronds.  He said, “We have a box of these homemade crosses at every door.  As you leave, please pick up a cross and hang it in your house as a reminder to forgive others as Christ has forgiven you.  Hang it in the room where you face the most conflict.”

As the worshippers filed out, a woman pointed to the box of crosses and said to the usher, “I’ll take five.”

Maybe you can identify!  Do you live in a “Stressed Nest?”  Homes get stressed when we don’t know how to express our anger, when we have different expectations in the bedroom, when we’re always in trouble financially, and when our kids are out of control.

This Sunday I’m beginning a series of talks called “Help for Your Stressed Nest.”  We’re going to see what the Bible has to say about family life.  Notice the topics:

This Sunday I’ll begin the series with a talk called, “How to Be Good and Mad.”
Then on April 17, my message is called “Til Debt Do Us Part?”  We’re going to see what the book of Proverbs has to say about money management.
Then on April 24 I’m bringing a talk called, “The Bedroom: Playground or Battleground?”  The Bible has some really practical advice for this really important issue in married life.
On May 1 my message is called, “When Unchurched Harry Met Sally.”  A lot of folks are in a marriage where one person is a believer and the other person isn’t.  The Bible tells us exactly what to do about that situation.
Then on May 8, Mother’s Day, we’ll get guidance on “Raising Your Kids Without Raising Your Blood Pressure.”
On May 15 I’ve got a guest speaker coming to talk about family life, and we’ll end the series on May 22 seeing what the book of Proverbs has to say about time management in your family.
I don’t have to tell you how important these topics are for your family and for the families around you.  Bring a friend to this important series!  I especially challenge those in Adult 4, 5, and 6 who have adult kids living in the Austin area:  if you’re grown son or daughter isn’t involved in a church, try to get them here for this study!

It all begins this week at 10:45 a.m.!
