“Your Part in Our Ministry Fair”
by Tom Goodman

One part of the Purpose-Driven Life Campaign is a Ministry Fair, scheduled for November 7.  “Ministry” is one of the Five Life Purposes we’ll discover in the Campaign, and the Ministry Fair will give everyone a chance to find their place of service.

Since the Ministry Fair is five weeks away, you might be wondering why I’m telling you about it in this newsletter.

So you can get ready!

Most of you receive LeaderLines because you hold a ministry position at Hillcrest.  At the Ministry Fair, hundreds of people will find out about the ministry you’re so passionate about.  In addition, it’s a perfect opportunity to sign up people looking for a way to serve.

In short, you need to be ready to participate in our Fair.

On Sunday, November 7, our entire MPC will be turned into a huge display of ministry opportunities.  After a sermon on how to find a way to serve, people will be released early from the worship service to go to the MPC and explore all the options our church provides.  When they enter the gym, they will see it divided into five large areas:  “Adult Ministries,” “Student Ministries,” “Music Ministries,” “Children’s Ministries,” and “Missions.”

You need to make sure that the ministry or program that you’re a part of is featured in one of these five areas.

Each of the five areas has a coordinator.  This person is responsible for the overall look of his/her area, for the allocation of space to each program or ministry, and for preparing you for this important experience.  The coordinators are:

Adult Ministries:  Michele Roberts, under the direction of Herb Ingram
Student Ministries:  Jim Siegel
Music Ministries:  Gene Chappell
Children’s Ministries:  BJ Linam
Missions:  Cheryl Selby, under my direction
Our first organizational meeting is this Sunday evening, October 10, at 7:30 p.m. in A-161.  Michele Roberts will give you the information you need to start preparing your booth or display.  Michele is the Ministry Fair Director as well as the coordinator for the Adult Ministries section of the Fair.

This is big, folks!  It’s “big” because it will require some creativity and construction to get ready.  It’s also “big” because of what the Fair can accomplish in your ministry and in others’ lives.

Each September in my previous church, we would kick off the new service year with a Ministry Fair.  Every year, people would leave the Fair impressed by two things:  they were astonished at how much work our church was doing, and they had a new determination to find their own place of service.  I believe the Hillcrest Ministry Fair will have those two impressions, too.

If you’re in a Hillcrest ministry—or a mission/ministry supported by Hillcrest—come to this week’s meeting!
