I want to extend a welcome to the new subscribers to LeaderLines.  In last Sunday’s talk, I challenged folks to sign up for this weekly e-briefing, and today we have more readers receiving LeaderLines.

Why LeaderLines?  Believe me, it’s not because I need something to fill some idle time!  I’ve carved out time in my schedule to write LeaderLines each week for four reasons.

First, I need a chance to visit with you about WHY we do what we do.  We can get so involved in our own area of ministry that we forget how we fit into the bigger picture of the Hillcrest Task.
Second, I get to introduce you to some things other churches are doing that will stimulate your creative thinking.  I come into contact with these things all the time, and in LeaderLines I can pass along the most intriguing ideas to you.
Third, I need a way to call attention to the good work going on at Hillcrest.  You’ll like what you hear about what other workers are doing in your church.
Fourth, LeaderLines gives me a chance to give you the “heads-up” when any changes or proposals are about to be introduced to the church.
It should be obvious that our other e-newsletter, Winning Ways, isn’t the best place to introduce this kind of material.  The purpose of Winning Ways is to get a quick shot of inspiration and information to all Hillcrest supporters before each Sunday in a format that would make them want to forward the e-newsletter to their friends.  LeaderLines gives me a chance to communicate directly with my PARTNERS in ministry—YOU!

If you want a printed copy of all the LeaderLines from my first year, we have a stack in the back of the Worship Center, or you can write me at tomgoodman@hbcaustin.org and I will send it to you.

Wow.  On “Vision Sunday” five days ago, I told our guests that it was a perfect day to be a guest at Hillcrest.  When someone visits a church, they’re asking, “What’s this church up to?  If I become a member here, will I be part of something worth joining?”  Vision Sunday obviously answered that question for a lot of people.  People from five households told me they wanted to join the church; one came up to me and said, “It was no accident God had me here today.”

So, it looks like I’ll have several people attending my “Discover Hillcrest” class to consider membership.  Spread the word: the class is held in my office from 4:00-6:00 p.m. this Sunday, May 23.  Child care is provided, but you’ll need to call us to add your child(ren) to the list.  Our Children’s Minister, teaches a kid-friendly version of the same class at the same time in her office.  If you you’re your child in this important class, contact BJ Linam at bj@hbcaustin.org or 345-3771.

P.S.  By the way, our new Student Minister is also developing a student-level version of “Discover Hillcrest.”  He will soon make that available.  In the mean time, pray for Jim Siegel as he leads the students through the activities of Youth Sunday this week.  We’ll honor our graduating high school seniors in the morning service, and we’ll turn the evening service over to Jim and the students.  See you this weekend!
