Lives are being changed at Hillcrest every week!  Let me share some sections from a report Cheryl Selby sent me.  She is a former inmate working with former inmates.  The names in italics have been changed:

“. . . Samuel has been going thru a real struggle with faith and changes.  Last night he was crying and I cried with him over the phone.  His Sunday School teacher called and wanted his clothes sizes because someone anonymous was purchasing him some nice work clothes.  God has been revealing himself to Samuel thru others.  He was so touched last night saying he didn’t deserve all this, and I had the opportunity to explain that what he was experiencing was God’s grace on his life, that is what brings about a response from us that can be no less than complete love and surrender. . . .”
“. . . Mabel came to Hillcrest’s End-of-Summer Fellowship on Sunday evening for hot dogs and told me she watched as young mothers picked up children who belonged to other moms . . . seniors cutting up . . . husbands and wives playing together.  No one HAD to be there, they all wanted to be there.  She told me she saw the family she never had and she felt at home. . . .”
“. . . Sasha’s parents made a big donation to Helping Hands Ministry since they have seen the unbelievable changes in Sasha!  Her joy just shines—she is finally overcoming her feelings of unworthiness. . . .”
“. . . Bill Johnson has become my right hand in south Austin.  He has a real servant’s heart, holds tight to biblical principles and is a real example of Christ’s love.”
“. . . At our Overcomers Dinner on Wednesday, many people watched from the parking lot as we let balloons go.  We wrote good-bye letters to our addictions and sent them up to God.  We are starting Step 7 next week asking Him to remove our defects of character—keep us in prayer!”
Isn’t that a great report!  It’s just one little slice of ministry that’s happening all over the church, in every age group, in every Sunday School class.  Keep up the good work of ministry to each other!

Tom

This Week at Hillcrest:

A Beautiful Mind:  We began a new Sunday morning series called Movie Messages.  It’s a Bible study of the topics covered by recent popular movies.  This Sunday, August 22, we’ll look at the abiding love of a wife for her husband in A Beautiful Mind, and we will see from God’s Word how to make love last.
Discover Hillcrest:  This Sunday, August 22.  The class will be held right after the morning service, AND LUNCH IS PROVIDED!  The class is for those who want to become members, and for those who just want to learn more about Hillcrest.  Topics include:
The most important thing you need to know about Jesus
     What we teach about baptism
Four fundamentals of spiritual growth, using the acronym “H.I.L.L.”
How to “connect” with others in the church
How to help us reach others for Christ and church involvement
     How to worship
While I teach the adult class, BJ teaches "Discover Hillcrest Kids" for children ages 8-12, and Jim teaches "Discover Hillcrest Youth" for students in grades 6-12.  Childcare is provided for children under the age of 8.
New Adult Discipleship Classes:  Go to our website at www.HillcrestAustin.org/discipleship to see the new Adult Discipleship Classes that begin this Sunday, August 22, at 5:00 p.m.
