Wrapping Up "A Beautiful Thing"
by Tom Goodman
June 18, 2014

In March 2011, perfume and cologne bottles were displayed on a table in the Worship Center.  There were charming antiques and elegant contemporary designs.  There was Old Spice and Este Lauder.  Avon bottles shaped like cars stood next to frosted glass shaped like lilies.  There was even a Disney bottle bearing the image of Ariel from "The Little Mermaid."

You remember?

It was part of the launch to our Worship Center renovation project.  It focused our attention on the woman who anointed Jesus with a container of expensive perfume (Mark 14:1-9).

The apostles said, "Why this waste?"

But Jesus said, "No, she has done a beautiful thing to me."

The Hillcrest Family has done a beautiful thing for Jesus.  While continuing to support our annual budget and special missions projects, we raised what was needed to renovate our Worship Center!

Our Worship Center is the place we gather to praise God's Name and to study God's Word.  The attention we give to it says a lot about how important those activities are to us!  That's why, in the days of Haggai, God expressed such strong offense at the neglect his people showed to the place of worship in comparison to the attention they gave to their own houses (see Haggai 1:1-15).

In 2011 we kicked off the campaign.

In 2012 we all worked together to strip down the old auditorium so the renovations could begin.  We worshiped in the MPC while the work was completed in only 3 months!

Now in 2014, it's time to conclude our capital fund raising and celebrate a job well done.

Here are two things you can do.  First, help us reach our goal of $840,000.  We're only $25,000 away.  Drop by the church office no later than Thursday or give online.

Second, be sure to thank the following people who worked so hard.  Once again, here are the names of those who served on the Project Committee:  Paul Waldo as chair, Pam Barry, Curtis Roberts, Wayne Crew, Carolyn Johnson, Tamara Shaffer, Erin Waldo, Brent McKanna, Lance Karm, Gene Chappell, and Herb Ingram as project manager.  And here are those who served on the Design Team:  Pam Barry as chair, Carolyn Johnson, Nikki Cameron, Janice Felps, Michele Roberts, and Amy Karm.

Join us this Sunday as we celebrate what God has done through and for our church!
