“Service or Serve-Us?”
by Tom Goodman
November 3, 2004

There are two kinds of people in every church. One group asks the question, “Where Can I Be of Service?”  The other group asks the question, “How Are You Planning to Serve Us?”  Which group do you belong to--the Service group or the Serve-Us group?

“Service” is the fourth purpose God expects you to fulfill.  We’ll be reading about service in our daily devotionals, studying about service in our HOST Groups, and discovering places to serve in our Ministry Fair!

This Sunday, our worship hour will be held in two locations!  After your HOST Group meeting, come to the Worship Center as usual at 10:45 a.m.  After about 10 minutes of music and 10 minutes of teaching, I will release you to spend the second half of our worship hour in the Multi-Purpose Center.  When you walk into the gym you will see displays of ministries our church hosts, as well as missions our church supports.

You will walk away from this Ministry Fair amazed at all your church does and challenged to find where you “fit.”  Don’t miss this Sunday, November 7!

Speaking of service, a big “Thanks!” goes out to all those who served in some way last weekend.  We knew that scheduling a Fall Fellowship on the same weekend as the annual Craft Show was going to be demanding.  It was, but you “dug deep” and found the energy to make it work.  It’s unlikely we will do a Fall Fellowship and a Craft Show so close together every year, but a job well done this year, guys.  You’re great!

Regarding these upcoming “Purpose-Driven” events, be sure to pray and participate:

The Ministry Fair, Sunday, November 7
The “Invitational” Golf Scramble, Saturday, November 13
Discover Hillcrest Membership Class, Sunday, November 14
Celebration Sunday, November 21
For more information about these events, read the weekly “Purpose Page.”  You will find it in your bulletin, in your newsletter, and at www.HillcrestAustin.org/pdl/purposepage.pdf.

Keep up the great work!  See you this Sunday!

Tom
